✧ We went out with the Prophet ﷺ on one of his expeditions. A man passed by a cave containing some water, and his soul tempted him to stay in that cave, to live on the water in it, to gather the wild greens around it, and to withdraw from the world. Then he said, “If I go to God’s Prophet ﷺ and mention that to him, then if he permits me I will do it, otherwise I will not.” So he came to him and said, “O Prophet of God, I passed by a cave containing what would sustain me of water and greens, and my soul told me to stay there and withdraw from the world.” The Prophet ﷺ said, “I was not sent with Judaism or Christianity, but I was sent with the tolerant pure monotheism. By Him in whose hand is my soul, a morning or an evening spent in the path of God is better than the world and all that is in it, and the standing of any of you in the row is better than his praying for sixty years.”
