✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'Among those before you there was a king who had a sorcerer. When the sorcerer grew old, he said to the king, "I have become old, so send me a boy whom I can teach sorcery." He sent him a boy, and he taught him sorcery. Between the king and the sorcerer there was a monk. The boy heard his words, and he was impressed by his manner and speech. Whenever he went to the sorcerer, he sat with the monk, and when he went to the sorcerer, he beat him, saying, "What kept you?" When he returned to his family, he sat with the monk, and when he went to his family, they said, "What is keeping you?" and they beat him. He complained about that to the monk, who said, "When the sorcerer wants to beat you, say, 'My family kept me,' and when your family wants to beat you, say, 'The sorcerer kept me.'" He said, "While that was the case, one day he came upon a great beast that had blocked the people from passing. He said, 'Today I will know whether the affair of the sorcerer is dearer to God or the affair of the monk.' He took a stone and said, 'In the name of God. O God, if the affair of the monk is dearer to You and more excellent, then kill this beast.' He threw it and killed it, and the people went on. This reached the monk, who said, 'My son, you are more excellent than I, and you will be tested. If you are tested, do not point to me.' The boy used to heal the blind from birth and the leper and these diseases. The king had a close companion who went blind. He heard about the boy and came to him with many gifts, saying, 'Heal me, and you shall have all that is here.' The boy said, 'I do not heal anyone; only God ﷻ heals. If you believe in God, He will heal you.' So he believed in Him, and the boy called upon God ﷻ, and he was cured. The blind man was seized and continually tortured until he pointed to the boy. The king said to him, 'Do you have a lord other than me?' He said, 'Yes, my Lord and your Lord is God.' He kept at him until he pointed to the monk. He seized him with torture and said, 'Recant your religion.' He refused. He ordered a saw, and it was placed on the top of his head, and they split him. He said to the blind man, 'Recant your religion.' He refused. He placed the saw on the top of his head until its two halves fell to the ground. It was said to the boy, 'Recant your religion.' He refused. He sent him with a group to a mountain and said, 'Climb such-and-such mountain with him, and when you reach its summit, if he recants his religion, then fine; otherwise, push him down.' He said, 'They took him to the mountain, and when he reached its summit, he said, "O God, suffice me against them however You will." The mountain shook them, and they all perished. The boy came and entered upon the king, who said, 'What happened to your companions?' He said, 'God ﷻ sufficed me against them.' He sent them with a group in a ship, saying, 'Take him to the sea, and when you are in the middle of the sea, if he recants, then fine; otherwise, drown him.' They took him, and when they were in deep water, he said, "O God, suffice me against them however You will." They all drowned. The boy came, and the king said, 'What happened to your companions?' He said, 'God ﷻ sufficed me against them.' Then the boy said to the king, 'You will not kill me until you do what I command you. If you do it, you will kill me.' He said, 'What is it?' He said, 'Gather the people on a single open plain, then take an arrow from your quiver and say, "In the name of God, the Lord of the boy," then shoot me. If you do that, you will kill me.' He did so, placed the arrow, and said, 'In the name of God, the Lord of the boy.' The arrow struck his temple. The boy placed his hand on the spot of the arrow and died. The people said, 'We believe in the Lord of the boy' three times. It was said to the king, 'Do you see what you were wary of? By God, it has befallen you; all the people have believed.' He ordered the mouths of the streets to be dug, and trenches were dug in them. He said, 'Whoever recants his religion, then fine; otherwise, throw him into them.'
