✧ From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said: “While I and a boy from the Ansar were shooting at two targets of ours in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when the sun was about two or three spears' length in the eye of the beholders from the horizon, it darkened until it became like a colocynth. One of us said to his companion: 'Come with us to the mosque, for by Allah, the matter of this sun will surely cause the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to speak to his Ummah.' We went to the mosque and found it packed, that is, full. We met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as he came out to the people. He came forward and stood with us for the longest standing he ever stood with us in prayer, and we heard no voice from him. Then he bowed for the longest bowing he ever bowed with us in prayer, and we heard no voice from him. Then he prostrated for the longest prostration he ever prostrated with us in prayer, and we heard no voice from him. Then in the second rak'ah he did the same, and the clearing of the sun coincided with his sitting in the second rak'ah. He said the taslim, then praised Allah and extolled Him, and bore witness that there is no god but He and that he is the servant of Allah and His Messenger. Then he said: 'O people, I am only a human messenger. I adjure you by Allah: if you know that I have fallen short in conveying any of the messages of my Lord, then tell me—so that I may convey the messages of my Lord as they ought to be conveyed. And if you know that I have conveyed the messages of my Lord, then why do you not tell me?' The people stood and said: 'We bear witness that you have conveyed the messages of your Lord, advised your Ummah, and fulfilled what was upon you.' Then they fell silent. Then he said: 'To proceed: some men claim that the eclipse of this sun and the eclipse of this moon and the disappearance of these stars from their rising places is due to the death of great men of the people of the earth. They have lied. But they are only signs among the signs of Allah ﷻ by which He causes His servants to take heed, to see who among them will turn in repentance. By Allah, I saw from the time I stood to pray what you will encounter in the affairs of your world and your Hereafter. By Allah, the Hour will not come until thirty liars appear, the last of whom is the one-eyed Dajjal, with his left eye effaced, resembling the eye of Abu Tahya, an old man of the Ansar at that time who lived between him and the room of Aisha. Whenever he emerges, he will claim that he is Allah. Whoever believes in him, affirms him, and follows him, no righteous deed he did before will benefit him. Whoever disbelieves in him and denies him, he will not be punished for any deed he did before. He will appear over all the earth except the Haram and Bayt al-Maqdis. He will besiege the Muslims in Bayt al-Maqdis, and they will be pressed with severe pressure. Then Allah will destroy him and his armies, until the base of a wall and the root of a tree will say: O believer, or O Muslim, here is a disbeliever, come and kill him. That will not happen until you see great matters whose gravity grows in your souls, then you ask among yourselves: Did your Prophet ﷺ mention anything of them to you? And until mountains move from their places. Then immediately after that comes the seizing.' He closed his fingers and gestured right and left. Then I attended a sermon of Samura in which he mentioned this hadith, and he did not advance a word or delay it from its place.”
