✧ One of us said to his companion: “Come with us, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ will surely speak to us today about the solar eclipse, concerning his Ummah.” We reached the mosque and found it filled to capacity. That coincided with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ coming out. He came forward and prayed with the people while we were behind him. He stood with us for the longest standing he ever stood with us in prayer, and we heard no voice from him. Then he bowed with us for the longest bowing he ever bowed with us in prayer, and we heard no voice from him. Then he prostrated with us for the longest prostration, and we heard no voice from him. Then in the second rak'ah he did the same, and the clearing of the sun coincided with the sitting of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He then finished, praised Allah, extolled Him, bore witness that there is no god but Allah, and bore witness that he is His servant and Messenger. Then he said: “O people, I am only a human messenger. I remind you by Allah: if you know that I have fallen short in conveying any of the messages of my Lord, then tell me, for I have conveyed the messages of my Lord as they ought to be conveyed. And if I have conveyed the messages of my Lord, then why do you not tell me?” They said: “We bear witness that you have conveyed the messages of your Lord, advised your Ummah, and fulfilled what was upon you.” Then he said: “To proceed: some men claim that the eclipse of this sun and this moon, or the disappearance of stars from their rising places, is due to the death of great men of the earth. They have lied. But they are signs among the signs of Allah by which He causes His servants to take heed, to see who among them will turn in repentance. I was shown while standing in prayer what you will encounter in this world and the Hereafter. The Hour will not come until thirty liars appear, the last of whom is the one-eyed Dajjal, with his left eye effaced, resembling the eye of Abu Tahya, an old man of the Ansar who lived between him and the room of Aisha. Whenever he emerges, he will claim that he is Allah. Whoever believes in him and affirms him, no righteous deed he did before will benefit him. Whoever disbelieves in him and denies him, he will not be punished for any deed he did before. He will appear over all the earth except the Haram and Bayt al-Maqdis. The believers will be besieged in Bayt al-Maqdis with a severe siege and pressed with severe pressure.” Al-Aswad b. Qays said: “And I think he said: 'Isa b. Maryam ﷺ will appear among them, and Allah will defeat him and his armies, until the base of a wall and the branch of a tree will call out to the believer, saying: 'Here is a disbeliever hiding behind me, come and kill him.' That will not happen until you see matters of your own affair growing grave in your souls, until you ask among yourselves: 'Did your Prophet mention anything of this?' And until mountains move from their places. Then upon that comes the seizing, the seizing.'” Ibn al-Mubarak said: “i.e., death.”
