حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ أنا خَالِدٌ عَنِ الْمُثَنَّى بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ
قَدِمْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لَا نُرِيدُ إِلَّا الْحَجَّ فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَهُ هَدْيٌ أَنْ يَجْعَلَهَا عُمْرَةً فَاشْتَدَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَكَانَ مَعَ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ هَدْيٌ وَقَدِمَ عَلِيٌّ ؓ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ فَسَأَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «بِمَ أَهْلَلْتَ؟» قَالَ بِمَا أَهْلَلْتَ بِهِ وَكَانَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ هَدْيٌ ومِائَةُ هَدْيٍ فَقَالَ سُرَاقَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَحَجَّتُنَا هَذِهِ لِعَامِنَا أَمْ لِلْأَبَدِ؟ قَالَ «لَا بَلْ لِلْأَبَدِ»

✧ We arrived with the Messenger of God ﷺ intending nothing but Hajj. The Messenger of God ﷺ ordered anyone who did not have a sacrificial animal to make it an ʿUmrah. That was hard on the people. Ṭalḥah b. ʿUbayd Allah had a sacrificial animal with him, and ʿAlī ؓ arrived from Yemen. The Messenger of God ﷺ asked him, 'With what did you declare your intention?' He said, 'With what you declared.' The Prophet ﷺ had a sacrificial animal with him, one hundred sacrificial animals. Surāqah said, 'O Messenger of God, is this Hajj of ours for this year of ours or forever?' He said, 'No, rather forever.'
