حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ سِنَانٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الشَّهِيدِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ خُصَيْفٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ
لَمَّا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَكَّةَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ قَالَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ «بِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ أَهْلَلْتُمْ؟» فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ قَالَ بِالْحَجِّ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ قَالَ بِالْعُمْرَةِ وَمِنْهُمْ مِنْ قَالَ بِالَّذِي أَهْلَلْتَ بِهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «فَأَحِلُّوا جَمِيعًا إِلَّا مَنْ سَاقَ الْهَدْيَ فَإِنِّي لَوِ اسْتَقْبَلْتُ مِنْ أَمْرِي مَا اسْتَدْبَرْتُ مَا سُقْتُ الْهَدْيَ حَتَّى أَكُونَ مَعَكُمْ حَلَالًا» قَالَ وَسَاقَ مِائَةَ بَدَنَةٍ لِيُقَلِّدَهُ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قِصَّةَ سُرَاقَةَ

✧ When the Messenger of God ﷺ arrived in Makkah during the Farewell Pilgrimage, he said to his Companions, 'With what did you declare your intention?' Among them were those who said 'with Hajj,' those who said 'with ʿUmrah,' and those who said 'with what you declared, O Messenger of God.' He said, 'Then all of you exit the state of consecration except those who have brought a sacrificial animal. If I had known at the beginning of my affair what I came to know at its end, I would not have brought a sacrificial animal, so that I might be in the state of having exited consecration along with you.' He had brought one hundred camels to garland them. Muḥammad b. Salamah did not mention the story of Surāqah.
