✧ We set out with the Messenger of God ﷺ, proclaiming the talbiyah for hajj. When we arrived in Makkah, we circumambulated the House and went between al-Safa and al-Marwah. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ stood among us and said, "Whoever among you has not driven a sacrificial animal should exit ihram and make it an umrah." We said, Exit from what, O Messenger of God? He said, "Complete exiting." So we had relations with women, wore clothes, and applied perfume. Then some people said, He makes us exit ihram while there are only four days between us and Arafah. That reached the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he stood among us, as if angry, and said, "By God, you know that I am the most God-fearing of you. Had I known you would say such a thing, I would not have driven the sacrificial animal. So comply with what you are commanded." Then Suraqah b. Malik stood up and said, O Messenger of God, is this umrah of ours, which you commanded us, for this year or forever? The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "Rather, forever." Suraqah said, Tell us, O Messenger of God, about our religion, as though we were created just now: is it concerning something for which the pens have dried and the decrees have run, or concerning something newly initiated? He said, "Rather, concerning what the pens have dried upon and the decrees have run with." Suraqah said, Then what is the point of deeds, O Messenger of God? He said, "Act, for every worker is facilitated." Then he recited: {As for him who gives and fears, and confirms the best, We will ease him toward ease. But as for him who is miserly and considers himself self-sufficient, and denies the best, We will ease him toward hardship}.
