حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْعَطَّارُ الْبَصْرِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّوَارِبِ ثنا سَالِمٌ أَبُو جُمَيْعٍ ثنا رَاشِدٌ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ الْحِمَّانِيُّ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ الْهُجَيْمِيِّ عَنْ سُلَيْمِ بْنِ جَابِرٍ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ بِالنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَدَعَوْتُ بِرَاحِلَتِي فَقُلْتُ لَآتِيَنَّ هَذَا الرَّجُلَ فَلَأَسْمَعَنَّ مِنْهُ فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَوَجَدْتُهُ قَاعِدًا مُحْتَبِيًا فِي بُرْدَةٍ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَرُدُّ عَلَى السَّائِلِ «لَا تَحْقِرَنَّ مِنَ الْمَعْرُوفِ شَيْئًا وَلَوْ أَنْ تَصُبَّ مِنْ فَضْلِ دَلْوِكِ فِي إِنَاءِ الْمُسْتَسْقِي وَإِيَّاكَ وَإِسْبَالَ الْإِزَارِ فَإِنَّهَا مِنَ الْمَخِيلَةِ وَإِنَّ اللهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمَخِيلَةَ وَإِنِ امْرُؤٌ شَتَمَكَ أَوْ قَالَ مَا لَيْسَ فِيكَ فَلَا تَشْتُمْهُ وَلَا تَقُلْ لَهُ مَا لَيْسَ فِيهِ فَيَكُونَ لَكَ أَجْرُهُ وَعَلَيْهِ وَبَالُهُ لَا تَسُبَّنَّ أَحَدًا» فَمَا سَبَبْتُ شَيْئًا بَعِيرًا وَلَا شَاةً وَلَا إِنْسَانًا مُنْذُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ السَّبِّ

✧ I heard about the Prophet ﷺ, so I called for my riding camel and said: I will surely go to this man and hear from him. I came to him and found him sitting wrapped in a cloak. I heard him responding to a questioner: "Do not consider any act of kindness insignificant, even pouring the surplus from your bucket into the vessel of one seeking water. Beware of letting the garment hang down, for it is from pride, and Allah does not love pride. If a man reviles you or says what is not in you, do not revile him and do not say to him what is not in him, so the reward will be yours and the burden will be upon him. Do not curse anyone." After that I never cursed anything, not a camel, not a sheep, not a human, since I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid cursing.
