حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ ثنا سَهْلُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ ثنا أَبُو الْخَلِيلِ عَبْدُ السَّلَامِ ثنا عُبَيْدَةُ الْهُجَيْمِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمٍ قَالَ قَالَ
أَبُو جُرَيٍّ جَابِرٌ رَكِبْتُ قَعُودًا لِي فَأَتَيْتُ مَكَّةَ فِي طَلَبِهِ فَإِذَا هُوَ جَالِسٌ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ «وَعَلَيْكَ» قُلْتُ إِنَّا مَعْشَرَ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ قَوْمٌ مِنَّا الْجَفَاءُ فَعَلِّمْنِي كَلَامًا يَنْفَعُنِي اللهُ بِهِ؟ قَالَ «اتَّقِ اللهَ وَلَا تَحْقِرَنَّ مِنَ الْمَعْرُوفِ أَوِ الْخَيْرِ شَيْئًا وَإِيَّاكَ وَإِسْبَالَ الْإِزَارِ فَإِنَّهُ مِنَ الْمَخِيلَةِ وَإِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُخْتَالَ» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ذَكَرْتَ إِسْبَالَ الْإِزَارِ وَقَدْ يَكُونُ بِسَاقِ الرَّجُلِ الْقُرَحُ أَوِ الشَّيْءُ يَسْتَحِيِي مِنْهُ؟ فَقَالَ «لَا بَأْسَ إِلَى نِصْفِ السَّاقِ أَوْ إِلَى الْكَعْبَيْنِ إِنَّ رَجُلًا مِمَّنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ لَبِسَ بُرْدَةً فَتَبَخْتَرَ فِيهَا فَنَظَرَ اللهُ ﷻ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ فَوْقِ عَرْشِهِ فَمَقَتَهُ فَأَمَرَ الْأَرْضَ فَأَخَذْتُهُ فَهُوَ يَتَجَلْجَلُ بَيْنَ الْأَرْضِ فَاحْذَرُوا مَقْتَ اللهِ ﷻ»

✧ Abu Jurayy Jabir: I mounted my young camel and came to Makkah seeking him. I found him sitting ﷺ, so I said: Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah. He said: "And upon you." I said: We are a group of desert people, and among us is harshness, so teach me words by which Allah may benefit me. He said: "Fear Allah and do not consider any act of kindness or goodness insignificant. Beware of letting your lower garment hang down, for that is from pride, and Allah, Mighty and Exalted, does not love the arrogant." A man said: O Messenger of Allah, you mentioned letting the lower garment hang down, but a man may have sores on his leg or something he is ashamed of. He said: "There is no harm up to the middle of the shin or to the ankles. A man from those before you wore a fine cloak and strutted in it, so Allah looked at him from above His Throne and detested him, and He commanded the earth and it seized him, and he is sinking between the earth. So beware of the detestation of Allah, Mighty and Exalted."
