✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ went out to visit a man from the Ansar. When he entered upon him, he placed his hand on his forehead and said: “How do you find yourself?” But he gave no reply. It was said: “O Messenger of God, he is too distracted by pain to answer you.” He said: “Leave me alone with him.” So the women left his presence and left the Messenger of God ﷺ. The Messenger of God ﷺ raised his hand, and the sick man gestured: put your hand back where it was. Then he called out: “O so-and-so, what do you feel?” He said: “I feel good. Two persons have come to me, one black and one white.” The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Which of them is closer to you?” He said: “The black one.” He said: “Good is little and evil is much.” He said: “Then give me the benefit of a supplication from you, O Messenger of God.” The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “O God, forgive the much and increase the little.” Then the Messenger of God ﷺ said: “What do you see?” He said: “Good, may my father and mother be your ransom. The good is growing, and I see the evil fading away. The black one has withdrawn from me.” He said: “Which of your deeds was most in control of you?” He said: “I used to give water to drink.” The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Listen, O Salman, do you find anything objectionable in me?” He said: “Yes, may my father and mother be your ransom. I have seen you in many situations, but I have never seen you in a state like today.” He said: “I know well what he is meeting: there is no vein in him but it is experiencing death on its own.”
