حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْخَفَّافُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ الْخَيْرِ قَالَ

حِينَ حَضَرَهُ الْمَوْتُ عَرَفُوا فِيهِ بَعْضَ الْجَزَعِ فَقَالُوا مَا يُجْزِعُكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ وَقَدْ كَانَ لَكَ سَابِقَةٌ فِي الْخَيْرِ شَهِدْتَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فُتُوحًا عِظَامًا؟ قَالَ يَحْزُنُنِي أَنَّ حَبِيبَنَا مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ حِينَ فَارَقَنَا عَهِدَ إِلَيْنَا فَقَالَ «لِيَكْفِ مِنْكُمْ كَزَادِ الرَّاكِبِ» فَهُوَ الَّذِي أَحْزَنَنِي فَجُمِعَ مَالُ سَلْمَانَ فَكَانَ قِيمَتُهُ خَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ دِرْهَمًا

Translation

✧ When death came to him, they noticed some anxiety in him, so they said: “What makes you anxious, O Abu ʿAbd Allah, when you have a precedence in good? You witnessed great conquests with the Messenger of God ﷺ.” He said: “It grieves me that our beloved Muhammad ﷺ, when he parted from us, made a covenant with us, saying: ‘Let the provision of one of you be like that of a rider.’ That is what has grieved me.” So Salman's wealth was gathered and its value was fifteen dirhams.
