حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُؤَمَّلِ بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ ثنا بَكْرُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ زَبَّانَ ثنا مِنْدَلُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ قَالَ
أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِالزَّكاةِ ثَلَاثَ مِرَارٍ فَقَالَ «مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ؟» قَالُوا الَّذِي يُقْتَلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ قَالَ «إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذَنْ لَقَلِيلٌ الْقَتْلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ شَهَادَةٌ وَالطَّاعُونُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالنُّفَسَاءُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْحَرْقُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْغَرَقُ شَهَادَةٌ وَالسُّلُّ شَهَادَةٌ وَالْبَطْنُ شَهَادَةٌ»

✧ I brought the zakat to the Messenger of God ﷺ three times, and he said, "Whom do you count as a martyr among you?" They said, "The one who is killed in the cause of God." He said, "Then the martyrs of my Ummah would be few. Being killed in the cause of God is martyrdom; the plague is martyrdom; a woman dying in childbirth is martyrdom; burning is martyrdom; drowning is martyrdom; tuberculosis is martyrdom; and a stomach ailment is martyrdom."
