حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي لَيْلَى الْكِنْدِيِّ قَالَ
أَقْبَلَ سَلْمَانُ ؓ فِي اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ رَاكِبًا أَوْ ثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ رَاكِبًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ فَلَمَّا حَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ قَالُوا تَقَدَّمْ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ «إِنَّا لَا نَؤُمُّكُمْ وَلَا نَنْكِحُ نِسَاءَكُمْ إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ هَدَانَا بِكُمْ» قَالَ فَتَقَدَّمَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ فَصَلَّى أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ قَالَ سَلْمَانُ «مَا لَنَا وَلِلْمَرْبَعَةِ إِنَّمَا كَانَ يَكْفِينَا نِصْفُ الْمَرْبَعَةِ وَنَحْنُ إِلَى الرُّخْصَةِ أَحْوَجُ» قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ يَعْنِي فِي السَّفَرِ
Translation

✧ Salmān ؓ came with twelve riders or thirteen riders from the companions of Muḥammad ﷺ. When the prayer time arrived, they said, “Lead us, O Abū ʿAbd Allāh.” He said, “We will not lead you in prayer nor marry your women. God, exalted is He, guided us through you.” So a man from the group stepped forward and prayed four rakʿahs. When he said the salutation, Salmān said, “What do we have to do with the four? Half of the four would have sufficed us, and we are more in need of the concession.” ʿAbd al-Razzāq said: meaning while traveling.
