حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا الصَّلْتُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ثنا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ
كُنَّا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذْ جَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ تَعْرِضُ نَفْسَهَا عَلَيْهِ فَخَفَّضَ فِيهَا الْبَصَرَ وَرَفَعَهُ فَلَمْ يُرْجِعْهَا فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ زَوِّجْنِيهَا قَالَ «هَلْ عِنْدَكَ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ لَا وَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا عِنْدِي مِنْ شَيْءٍ قَالَ «وَلَا خَاتَمٌ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ؟» قَالَ وَلَا خَاتَمٌ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ وَلَكِنْ أَشُقُّ بُرْدِي هَذِهِ وأُعْطِيهَا وَآخُذُ النِّصْفَ فَقَالَ «لَا وَلَكِنْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «اذْهَبْ فَقَدْ زَوَّجْتُكَهَا عَلَى مَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ»

✧ We were with the Messenger of God ﷺ when a woman came to him offering herself to him. He lowered his gaze at her and raised it, but he did not respond to her. A man among his companions said, “O Messenger of God, marry her to me.” He said, “Do you have anything?” He said, “No, by God, O Messenger of God, I have nothing.” He said, “Not even a ring of iron?” He said, “Not even a ring of iron, but I will split this cloak of mine and give her half, and take the other half.” He said, “No, but do you have anything of the Quran with you?” He said, “Yes.” He said, “Go, for I have married her to you for what you have of the Quran.”
