حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ ثنا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنِ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ
أَنَّ سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ صَاحِبَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا اطَّلَعَ مِنْ جُحْرٍ فِي بَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَمَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِدْرًى يَحُكُّ بِهِ رَأْسَهُ فَلَمَّا رَآهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «لَوْ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَنْتَظِرُنِي لَطَعَنْتُ بِهِ فِي عَيْنِكَ إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الِاسْتِئْذَانُ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْبَصَرِ»

✧ Sahl b. Saʿd, the Companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, informed him that a man looked through a hole in the door of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a comb with which he was scratching his head. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw him, he said: “If I knew that you were waiting for me, I would poke it into your eye. Permission to enter was only established because of sight.”
