✧ Said bin Musayyib narrates from Sahl bin Saad

حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالَا ثنا سُفْيَانُ ثنا الزُّهْرِيُّ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ يَقُولُ اطَّلَعَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ حُجْرَةِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَمَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مِدْرًى يَحُكُّ بِهِ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ «لَوْ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَنْتَظِرُنِي لَطَعَنْتُ بِهِ فِي عَيْنِكَ إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الِاسْتِئْذَانُ مِنْ أَجْلِ الْبَصَرِ»

✧ I heard Sahl b. Saʿd say: A man looked from the room of the Prophet ﷺ, while the Prophet ﷺ had a comb with which he was scratching his head. He said: “If I knew that you were waiting for me, I would poke it into your eye. Permission to enter was only made for the sake of sight.”
