حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ ثنا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ أُسَيْدِ بْنِ حُضَيْرٍ

أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ بَيْنَمَا أَنَا أَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْبَقَرَةِ إِذْ سَمِعْتُ وَجْبَةً مِنْ خَلْفِي فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّ فَرَسِي أُطْلِقَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اقْرَأْهُ يَا أَبَا عَتِيكٍ» قَالَ فَالْتَفَتُّ فَإِذَا الْمَصَابِيحُ مُدَلَّاةٌ بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «اقْرَأْهُ يَا أَبَا عَتِيكٍ» فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ أَنَّ أَمْضِيَ قَالَ «تِلْكَ الْمَلَائِكَةُ نَزَلَتْ لِقِرَاءَةِ سُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ أَمَا إِنَّكَ لَوْ مَضَيْتَ لَرَأَيْتَ الْعَجَائِبَ»

✧ He said: O Messenger of God, while I was reciting Surat al-Baqarah, I heard a thud behind me, and I thought my horse had been set loose. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'Recite it, O Abu 'Atik.' He said: I turned around, and there were lamps hanging between heaven and earth, and the Messenger of God ﷺ was saying: 'Recite it, O Abu 'Atik.' He said: O Messenger of God, I could not continue. He said: 'Those were the angels who descended for the recitation of Surat al-Baqarah. Indeed, if you had continued, you would have seen wonders.'
