حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ أَبِي الطَّاهِرِ بْنِ السَّرْحِ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَزِيزٍ الْأَيْلِيُّ ثنا سَلَامَةُ بْنُ رَوْحٍ عَنْ عَقِيلٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ أَنَّ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْعَاصِ

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ اسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ مُضْطَجِعٌ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ لَابِسٌ مِرْطَ عَائِشَةَ فَأَذِنَ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَهُوَ كَذَلِكَ فَقَضَى أَبُو بَكْرٍ حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ ثُمَّ اسْتَأْذَنَ عُمَرُ وَهُوَ عَلَى تِلْكَ الْحَالِ فَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ قَالَ عُثْمَانُ ثُمَّ اسْتَأْذَنْتُ فَجَلَسَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَمَعَ عَلَيْهِ ثِيَابَهُ ثُمَّ قَضَيْتُ إِلَيْهِ حَاجَتِي ثُمَّ انْصَرَفْتُ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا لَكَ لَمْ تَفْزَعْ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ كَمَا فَزِعْتَ لِعُثْمَانَ؟ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ عُثْمَانَ رَجُلٌ حَيِيٌّ وَإِنِّي خَشِيتُ أَنْ لَوْ أَذِنْتُ لَهُ وَهُوَ عَلَى تِلْكَ الْحَالِ أَنْ لَا يُلْقِيَ إِلَيَّ حَاجَتَهُ»

✧ He informed him that Abu Bakr asked permission to enter upon the Messenger of God ﷺ while he was lying down on his bed wearing 'A'ishah's cloak. He granted Abu Bakr permission while he was in that state. Abu Bakr brought his need, then departed. Then 'Umar asked permission while he was in that state, and he brought his need, then departed. 'Uthman said: Then I asked permission, and the Messenger of God ﷺ sat up and gathered his garments about him. Then I brought my need to him, then departed. 'A'ishah said, 'O Messenger of God, why did you not sit up for Abu Bakr and 'Umar as you sat up for 'Uthman?' He said, 'Uthman is a bashful man, and I feared that if I granted him permission while he was in that state, he would not present his need to me.'
