حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ سِنَانٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ قَالَ

«صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الظُّهْرِ بِعُسْفَانَ» وَعَلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ فَقَالَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ قَدْ كَانُوا عَلَى حَالٍ لَوْ أَصَبْنَا غِرَّتَهُمْ فَقَالُوا يَأْتِي عَلَيْهِمُ الْآنَ صَلَاةٌ هِيَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنْ أَوْلَادِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ فَنَزَلَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ بِالْآيَاتِ الَّتِي فِيهَا صَلَاةُ الْخَوْفِ «فَصَفَّ أَصْحَابَهُ خَلْفَهُ صَفَّيْنِ فَكَبَّرَ وَكَبَّرْنَا جَمِيعًا وَرَكَعَ وَرَكَعْنَا جَمِيعًا وَسَجَدَ وَسَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ فَلَمَّا قَامَ تَأَخَّرَ الصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ فَقَامُوا مَقَامَ الصَّفِّ الْمُؤَخَّرِ وَتَقَدَّمَ الصَّفُّ الْمُؤَخَّرُ فَقَامَ مَقَامَهُمْ فَرَكَعَ وَرَكَعْنَا جَمِيعًا وَرَفَعَ وَرَفَعْنَا جَمِيعًا وَسَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ فَلَمَّا جَلَسَ سَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الْمُؤَخَّرُ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in Zuhr prayer at 'Usfan, while the polytheists were led by Khalid b. al-Walid. The polytheists said: "They were in a situation where, if we had caught them off guard..." They also said: "Now a prayer is coming upon them that is dearer to them than their children and their own selves." Jibril ﷺ descended with the verses containing the prayer of fear. "He arranged his companions in two rows behind him. He said the takbir and we all said the takbir. He bowed and we all bowed. He prostrated and the row nearest to him prostrated. When he stood up, the row nearest to him moved back and took the position of the rear row, and the rear row moved forward and took their position. He bowed and we all bowed. He raised his head and we all raised our heads. The row nearest to him prostrated. When he sat down, the rear row prostrated."
