حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ ثنا يَحْيَى عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنِي الْحَارِثُ بْنُ شُبَيْلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيُّ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ

كُنَّا نَتَكَلَّمُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ يُكَلِّمُ أَحَدُنَا أَخَاهُ فِي حَاجَتِهِ حَتَّى نَزَلَتِ الْآيَةُ {حَافِظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى وَقُومُوا لِلَّهِ قَانِتِينَ} فَأُمِرْنَا بِالسُّكُوتِ

✧ We used to speak during the prayer; one of us would speak to his brother about his need until the verse was revealed: {Guard strictly the prayers, and the middle prayer, and stand before God devoutly obedient}. Then we were commanded to be silent.
