حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ الطَّحَّانُ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ بْنُ السَّرْحِ قَالَ

وَجَدْتُ فِي كِتَابِ خَالِي عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ حَدَّثَنِي عَقِيلُ حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ أَكْتُبُ الْوَحْيَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَكَانَ إِذَا نَزَلَ عَلَيْهِ أَخَذَتْهُ بُرَحَاءٌ شَدِيدَةٌ وَعَرِقَ عَرَقًا شَدِيدًا مِثْلَ الْجُمَانِ ثُمَّ سُرِّيَ عَنْهُ فَكُنْتُ أَدْخَلُ عَلَيْهِ بِقِطْعَةِ الْقَتَبِ أَوْ كِسْرَةٍ فَأَكْتُبُ وَهُوَ يُمْلِي عَلَيَّ فَمَا أَفْرَغُ حَتَّى تَكَادَ رِجْلَيَّ تَنْكَسِرُ مِنْ ثِقَلِ الْقُرْآنِ حَتَّى أَقُولَ لَا أَمْشِي عَلَى رِجْلَيَّ أَبَدًا فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُ قَالَ «اقْرَأْهُ» فَإِنْ كَانَ فِيهِ سَقْطٌ أَقَامَهُ ثُمَّ أَخْرَجُ بِهِ إِلَى النَّاسِ

✧ I found in the book of my maternal uncle Abd al-Hamid: Aqil narrated to me; Sa'id b. Sulayman narrated to me; he informed him from his father Sulayman b. Zayd, from Zayd b. Thabit, who said: I used to write down the revelation for the Messenger of God ﷺ. When it descended upon him, intense distress would seize him and he would sweat profusely like pearls. Then it was relieved from him. I would enter upon him with a piece of saddle-wood or a potsherd and write while he dictated to me. I would not finish until my legs almost broke from the weight of the Qur'an, until I would say: I will never walk on my legs again. When I finished, he would say: "Recite it." If there was an omission, he would correct it. Then I would take it out to the people.
