حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ دُحَيْمٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْمَعَافِرِيُّ عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ عَقِيلِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ

كُنْتُ أَكْتُبُ الْوَحْيَ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَكَانَ يَشْتَدُّ نَفَسَهُ ويَعْرَقُ عَرَقًا شَدِيدًا مِثْلَ الْجُمَانِ ثُمَّ يُسَرَّى عَنْهُ فَأَكْتُبُ وَهُوَ يُمْلِي عَلَيَّ فَمَا أَفْرَغُ حَتَّى يَثْقُلَ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُ قَالَ «اقْرَأْ» فَأَقْرَأَهُ فَإِنْ كَانَ فِيهِ سَقْطٌ أَقَامَهُ

✧ I used to write down the revelation in the presence of the Messenger of God ﷺ. His breathing would become heavy and he would sweat profusely like pearls. Then it would be lifted from him, and I would write while he dictated to me. I would not finish until it became heavy [again]. When I finished, he would say: "Recite it." I would recite it, and if there was an omission, he would correct it.
