حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ ثنا كَثِيرُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ حَدَّثَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ

«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُطَوِّلُ الْقِرَاءَةَ فِي الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَيُحَرِّكُ شَفَتَيْهِ وَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ إِنَّمَا يُحَرِّكُ الشَّفَتَيْنِ لِلْقِرَاءَةِ»

Translation

Chain of narrators

  2. Muḥammad b. Abū Bakr al-Muqaddamī

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ would lengthen the recitation in the Zuhr and Asr prayers and move his lips, and I knew that he only moved his lips for recitation.
