al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (al-Tabarani) 4668

✧ Zaid bin Haritha bin Sharahil bin Ka'ab bin Abdul Uzza bin Yazid bin Amr al-Qays al-Kalbi, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , martyred on the Day of Mu'tah in the 8th year.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ اللَّيْثِ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ ثنا أَبُو هَمَّامٍ الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ شُجَاعٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا زِيَادُ بْنُ خَيْثَمَةَ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ

أَنَّهُ حَمَلَ عَلَى فَرَسٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ ثُمَّ أَنَّهُ وَجَدَهُ بَعْدُ فِي وَأَنْزَلَ عَلَيْهِ الْكِتَابَ مَا مَسَّ مِنْهَا صَنَمًا حَتَّى أَكْرَمَهُ اللهُ وَأَنْزَلَ عَلَيْهِ السُّوقَ يُبَاعُ وَهُوَ مَصْرُورٌ مَهْزُولٌ فَسَاوَمَ بِهِ ثُمَّ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِنِّي كُنْتُ حَمَلْتُ عَلَى فَرَسٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ وَإِنِّي قَدْ وَجَدْتُهُ يُبَاعُ فِي السُّوقِ بِثَمَنٍ يَسِيرٍ مَهْزُولٍ مَصْرُورٍ وَقَدْ عَرَفْتُ عَرَقَهُ أفَأَشْتَرِيهِ؟ «فَنَهَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أنْ يَشْتَرِيَهُ»

✧ He had given a horse in the way of Allah. Then later he found it being sold in the market, tied up and emaciated. He bargained for it, then came to the Prophet ﷺ and said to him: I had given a horse in the way of Allah, and I found it being sold in the market for a small price, emaciated and tied up, and I recognized its sweat. Should I buy it? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade him to buy it.
