al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (al-Tabarani) 4665

✧ Zaid bin Haritha bin Sharahil bin Ka'ab bin Abdul Uzza bin Yazid bin Amr al-Qays al-Kalbi, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , martyred on the Day of Mu'tah in the 8th year.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ وَيَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حَاطِبٍ عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

طُفْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَلَمَسْتُ بَعْضَ الْأَصْنَامِ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَمَسَّهَا» فَقُلْتُ لَأَعُودَنَّ حَتَّى أُبْصِرَ مَا يَقُولُ ثُمَّ مَسَسْتُهَا فَقَالَ «أَلَمْ تُنْهَ عَنْ هَذَا؟» قَالَ فَوَالَّذِي أَكْرَمَهُ الْكِتَابُ

✧ I circumambulated with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day, and I touched one of the idols. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: "Do not touch it." I said: I will go back until I see what he says. Then I touched it. He said: "Were you not forbidden from this?" He said: By the One who honored him with the Book, he did not touch any idol among them until Allah honored him and sent down the Book upon him.
