✧ That the Prophet ﷺ wrote him a document on red leather, and he patched his bucket with it. The Messenger of God ﷺ was informed, and the Messenger of God ﷺ sent a raiding party. They did not leave him any grazing livestock, nor any going out to pasture, nor family, nor property, except that they took it. He escaped naked on a horse and came to his daughter, who was married among Banu Hilal. The people's sitting place was in the courtyard of her door. He entered upon her from behind the houses. She said: What is wrong with you? He said: Every evil has befallen your father; no grazing livestock, nor any going out to pasture, nor family, nor property was left to him except that it was taken. I said: She had been called to Islam, and she had already become Muslim. He said: So she threw a garment over him, and he went out. He said: Where is your husband? She said: In the camp. He came to him wearing a garment that, if his head was covered with it, his buttocks were exposed; and if his buttocks were covered, his head was exposed. He said: What do I see with you? He said: Every evil has befallen me. He repeated to him the same words he had said to his daughter. He said: I want Muhammad before he divides my property. He said: Take my riding camel. He said: I have no need of it, but give me the young camel. So he took it and went to the Prophet ﷺ. He came to him at the dawn prayer while he was praying. When he finished his prayer, he said: Stretch out your hands, I will pledge allegiance to you. The Messenger of God ﷺ stretched out his hand, but when he wanted to strike it, the Messenger of God ﷺ withdrew it. He did that several times, then he turned to him and said: "Who are you?" He said: Ri'ya al-Suhaymi. The Prophet ﷺ took him by his upper arm and lifted him off the ground, then said: "Here is Ri'ya al-Suhaymi; I wrote him a document and he patched his bucket with it." Ri'ya said: My property and my son? He said: "As for your property, it is too late; it has already been divided. As for your son and your family, whoever you find among them." He said: He went away, then returned, and there was his son, who had been recognized. He came back to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: This is my son. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "O Bilal, go out with him; if he claims that he is his son, then hand him over to him." So he went out with him, and he said: This is my son, so he handed him over to him. Then he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: He claimed that he was his son, and I did not see either of them shed a tear for the other. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "That is the harshness of the Bedouins."
