حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ مَرْثَدٍ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَيَّاشٍ حَدَّثَنِي عِيسَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّ رَبِيعَةَ بْنَ رُوَاءَ الْعَنْسِيَّ قَدِمَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَوَجَدَهُ يَتَعَشَّى فَدَعَاهُ إِلَى الْعِشَاءِ فَأَكَلَ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَتَشْهَدُ أَنَّ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ؟» قَالَ رَبِيعَةُ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ «رَاغِبًا أَمْ رَاهِبًا؟» قَالَ رَبِيعَةُ أَمَّا الرَّغْبَةُ فَوَاللهِ مَا هِي فِي يَدَكَ وَأَمَّا الرَّهْبَةُ فَوَاللهِ أَنَا بِبِلَادٍ مَا يَبْلُغُنَا جُيُوشُكَ وَلَا خُيُولُكَ وَلَكِنِّي خُوِّفْتُ فَخِفْتُ وَقِيلَ لِي آمِنْ فَآمَنْتُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «رَبِّ خَطِيبٍ مِنْ عَنْسٍ» فَأَقَامَ يَخْتَلِفُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ فَوَدَّعَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنْ أَحْسَسْتَ حَسًّا فَوَائِلْ إِلَى أَهْلِ الْقَرْيَةِ» فَخَرَجَ فَأَحَسَّ حَسًّا فَوَاءَلَ إِلَى قَرْيَةٍ فَمَاتَ بِهَا

✧ Rabi'ah b. Ruwa' al-'Ansi came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and found him having supper, so he invited him to supper and he ate. The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Do you testify that there is no god but God and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger?" Rabi'ah said, "I testify that there is no god but God and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger." He said, "Out of desire or fear?" Rabi'ah said, "As for desire, by God, it is not in your hand; as for fear, by God, I am in a land that your armies and cavalry do not reach us, but I was made to fear and so I feared, and I was told to believe and so I believed." The Prophet ﷺ said, "What an orator from 'Ans!" He stayed, coming and going to the Prophet ﷺ, then came to bid him farewell. The Messenger of God ﷺ said to him, "If you sense any danger, flee to the people of the town." He left, sensed danger, and fled to a town where he died.
