✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ sent me on an errand. I said, “O Messenger of God, you are sending me far away while I am anxious about you.” He said, “What has your anxiety about me reached?” I said, “I wake in the morning and do not think you will reach the evening, and I reach the evening and do not think you will reach the morning.” He said, “O Khabbab, [there are] five things: if you do them, you will see me, and if you do not do them, you will not see me.” I said, “O Messenger of God, what are they?” He said, “Worship God, associating nothing with Him, even if you are cut up and burned, and believe in divine decree.” I said, “O Messenger of God, what is belief in divine decree?” He said, “Know that what befalls you could not have missed you, and that what misses you could not have befallen you. Do not drink wine, for its sin knocks against other sins just as its tree clings to trees. Be dutiful to your parents, even if they command you to leave this world. And hold fast to the rope of the community, for God’s hand is upon the community. O Khabbab, if you see me on the Day of Resurrection, you will not be separated from me.”
