حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

مَرَّ حَارِثَةُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ يُنَاجِيهِ فَلَمْ يُسَلِّمْ فَقَالَ جِبْرِيلُ ﷺ مَا مَنَعَهُ أَنْ يُسَلِّمَ؟ إِنَّهُ لَوْ سَلَّمَ لَرَدَدْتُ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَمَا إِنَّهُ مِنَ الثَّمَانِينَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «وَمَا الثَّمَانُونَ؟» قَالَ يَفِرُّ النَّاسُ عَنْكَ غَيْرَ ثَمَانِينَ فَيَصِيرُونَ مَعَكَ رِزْقُهُمْ وَرِزْقُ أَوْلَادِهِمْ عَلَى اللهِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ حَارِثَةُ سَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَلَا سَلَّمْتَ حِينَ مَرَرْتَ؟» قَالَ رَأَيْتُ مَعَكَ إِنْسَانًا فَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أَقْطَعَ حَدِيثَكَ قَالَ «فَرَأَيْتَهُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «ذَاكَ جِبْرِيلُ ﷺ وَقَدْ قَالَ» فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِمَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ

✧ Harithah b. al-Nu'man passed by the Messenger of God ﷺ while Gabriel ﷺ was with him, conversing privately, and he did not greet. Gabriel ﷺ said, "What prevented him from greeting? If he had greeted, I would have returned the greeting to him." Then he said, "Indeed, he is one of the eighty." The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "And what are the eighty?" He said, "People will flee from you except eighty, and they will remain with you; their provision and the provision of their children will be with God in Paradise." When Harithah returned, he greeted, and the Messenger of God ﷺ said to him, "Why did you not greet when you passed by?" He said, "I saw a person with you, and I disliked interrupting your conversation." He said, "Did you see him?" He said, "Yes." He said, "That was Gabriel ﷺ, and he said..." Then he informed him of what Gabriel ﷺ had said.
