حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ نَجْدَةَ الْحَوْطِيُّ ثنا أَبِي ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ عَنْ شُرَحْبِيلَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ

رَأَيْتُ خَمْسَةً مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُمُّونَ شَوَارِبَهُمْ وَيُعْفُونَ لِحَاهُمْ وَيَصُرُّونَهَا أَبَا أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيَّ وَالْحَجَّاجَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ الثُّمَالِيَّ وَالْمِقْدَامَ بْنَ مَعْدِيكَرِبَ وَعَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ بُسْرٍ الْمَازِنِيَّ وَعُتْبَةَ بْنَ عَبْدٍ السُّلَمِيَّ كَانُوا يَقُمُّونَ مَعَ طَرَفِ الشَّفَةِ

✧ I saw five of the Companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ trimming their moustaches, letting their beards grow, and tying them up: Abu Umamah al-Bahili, al-Hajjaj b. 'Amir al-Thumali, al-Miqdam b. Ma'dikarib, 'Abd Allah b. Busr al-Mazini, and 'Utbah b. 'Abd al-Sulami. They used to trim along the edge of the lip.
