حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ قَالَ

سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَلْحَحْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ «مَا أَنْكَرَ مَسْأَلَتَكَ يَا حَكِيمُ إِنَّ هَذَا الْمَالَ خَضِرَةٌ حُلْوَةٌ وَإِنَّمَا هُوَ مَعَ ذَلِكَ أَوْسَاخُ أَيْدِي النَّاسِ وَإِنَّ يَدَ اللهِ فَوْقَ يَدِ الْمُعْطِي وَيَدُ الْمُعْطِي فَوْقَ يَدِ الْمُعْطَى وَأَسْفَلُ الْأَيْدِي يَدُ الْمُعْطَى»

Translation

  5. Ḥakīm b. Ḥizām

✧ I asked the Prophet ﷺ and pressed him, so he said, 'How strange is your request, O Hakim! Indeed this wealth is lush and sweet, and it is, along with that, only the filth of people's hands. Indeed Allah's hand is above the hand of the giver, and the hand of the giver is above the hand of the recipient, and the lowest of hands is the hand of the recipient.'
