حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبَانَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزُّهْرِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ قَالَ

خَرَجْتُ إِلَى الْيَمَنِ فَابْتَعْتُ حُلَّةَ ذِي يَزَنَ فَأَهْدَيْتُهَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي الْمُدَّةِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ قُرَيْشٍ فَقَالَ «لَا أَقْبَلُ هَدِيَّةَ مُشْرِكٍ» فَرَدَّهَا فَبِعْتُها فَاشْتَرَاهَا فَلَبِسَهَا ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَى أَصْحَابِهِ وَهِيَ عَلَيْهِ فَمَا رَأَيْتُ شَيْئًا فِي شَيْءٍ أَحْسَنَ مِنْهُ فِيهَا ﷺ فَمَا مَلَكْتُ أَنْ قُلْتُ

✧ I went out to Yemen and bought a hulla of Dhu Yazan, then I gifted it to the Prophet ﷺ during the truce that was between him and Quraysh. He said, 'I do not accept the gift of a polytheist,' and returned it. So I sold it, and he bought it and wore it. Then he came out to his companions wearing it, and I never saw anything on anyone more beautiful than it on him ﷺ. I could not help saying—
