حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ حَكِيمَ بْنَ حِزَامٍ يَقُولُ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَعْتَقْتُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ أَرْبَعِينَ مُحَرَّرًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَسْلَمْتَ عَلَى مَا سَبَقَ لَكَ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ»

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Bishr b. Mūsá
  2. al-Ḥumaydī
  3. Sufyān
  4. Hishām b. ʿUrwah from his father
  5. Ḥakīm b. Ḥizām

✧ that he heard Ḥakīm b. Ḥizām say: I said, "O Messenger of God, I freed forty emancipated slaves in the pre-Islamic era." The Prophet ﷺ said, "You have embraced Islam upon the good that preceded from you."
