حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ مُسَافِرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ
أَنَّ حَكِيمَ بْنَ حِزَامٍ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مِائَةً مِنَ الْإِبِلِ فَأَعْطَاهُ ثُمَّ سَأَلَهُ مِائَةً فَأَعْطَاهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَا حَكِيمُ بْنَ حِزَامٍ إِنَّ هَذَا الْمَالَ خَضِرَةٌ حُلْوَةٌ فَمَنْ أَخَذَهُ بِسَخَاوَةِ نَفْسٍ بُورِكَ لَهُ فِيهِ وَمَنْ أَخَذَهُ بِإِشْرَافِ نَفْسٍ لَمْ يُبَارَكْ لَهُ فِيهِ وَكَانَ كَالَّذِي يَأْكُلُ وَلَا يَشْبَعُ وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ»

✧ that Ḥakīm b. Ḥizām asked the Messenger of God ﷺ for a hundred camels, and he gave him. Then he asked him for a hundred, and he gave him. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ said to him, "O Ḥakīm b. Ḥizām, this wealth is green and sweet. Whoever takes it with a generous soul will be blessed in it, and whoever takes it with eager desire will not be blessed in it, and he will be like one who eats but never becomes full. The upper hand is better than the lower hand, and begin with those you support."
