حَدَّثَنَا مَسْعَدَةُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ الْعَطَّارُ الْمَكِّيُّ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ الْحِزَامِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ حَنْطَبٍ عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ

أَنَّهُ بَاعَ دَارَهُ مِنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ ؓ بِسِتِّينَ أَلْفًا فَقَالُوا غَبَنَكَ وَاللهِ مُعَاوِيَةُ فَقَالَ «مَا أَخَذْتُهَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ إِلَّا بَزِقِّ خَمْرٍ أُشْهِدُكُمْ أَنَّهَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ وَالْمَسَاكِينِ وَالرِّقَابِ وَأَيُّنَا الْمَغْبُونُ؟»

✧ that he sold his house to Muʿāwiyah ؓ for sixty thousand. They said, "By God, Muʿāwiyah has cheated you." He said, "I only acquired it in the pre-Islamic era for a skin of wine. I call you to witness that it is for the cause of God, the poor, and the slaves. So which of us is the cheated one?"
