حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ ثنا شُرَيْحُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ
أَنَّهُ أَقْبَلَ حُذَيْفَةُ وَأَبُوهُ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ فَلَقِيَهُمْ أَبُو جَهْلٍ وَأَصْحَابُهُ فَقَالُوا لَهُمَا لَعَلَّكُما تُرِيدَانِ مُحَمَّدًا قَالَا قُلْنَا لَا قَالَ فَأَخَذَ عَلَيْنَا أَنْ لَا نُعِينَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَلَمَّا أَتَيْنَا النَّبِيَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ ذَكَرْنَا ذَلِكَ لَهُ وَقُلْنَا يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ إِنَّ الْقَوْمَ قَدْ أَخَذُوا عَلَيْنَا وَإِنْ أَمَرْتَنَا أَنْ نُقَاتِلَ مَعَكَ فَعَلْنَا فَقَالَ «بَلْ نَسْتَعِينُ اللهَ وَنَفِي لَهُمْ»

✧ Hudhayfa and his father were coming on the day of Badr when Abu Jahl and his companions met them. They said to them, "Perhaps you two intend [to join] Muhammad?" He said: We said, "No." He said: So he took from us [a pledge] that we would not aid against them. When we came to the Prophet ﷺ, we mentioned that to him and said, "O Prophet of God, the people have taken a pledge from us. If you order us to fight alongside you, we will do it." He said, "Rather, we will seek help from God and fulfill our pledge to them."
