حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ثنا أَبِي عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ
أَخَذَ حُذَيْفَةَ وَأَبَاهُ الْمُشْرِكُونَ قَبْلَ بَدْرٍ فَأَرَادُوا أَنْ يَقْتُلُوهُمْ وَأَخَذُوا عَلَيْهِمْ عَهْدًا وَمِيثَاقًا أَنْ لَا يُعِينُوا عَلَيْنَا فَأَرْسَلُوهُما فَأَتَيَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَا إِنَّا قَدْ جَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ أَنْ لَا نُعِينَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَإِنْ شِئْتَ قَاتَلْنَا مَعَكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «بَلْ نَفِي لَهُمْ وَنَسْتَعِينُ اللهَ عَلَيْهِمْ»

✧ The polytheists seized Hudhayfa and his father before Badr and wanted to kill them, and they took from them a covenant and pact that they would not aid [the Muslims] against them, so they released them. They came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "We gave them [a pledge] that we would not aid against them. If you wish, we will fight alongside you." The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "Rather, we will fulfill our pledge to them, and we will seek help from God against them."
