حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ثنا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنِي الزُّهْرِيُّ عَنْ أَنَسٍ ؓ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَرَّ عَلَى حَمْزَةَ بَعْدَ أُحُدٍ وَقَدْ مُثِّلَ بِهِ فَقَالَ «لَوْلَا أَنْ تَجِدَ صَفِيَّةُ فِي نَفْسِهَا لَتَرَكْتُهُ حَتَّى تَأْكُلَهُ الْعَافِيَةُ حَتَّى يُحْشَرَ مِنْ بُطُونِهَا» ثُمَّ دَعَا بِنَمِرَةٍ فَكَانَتْ إِذَا مُدَّتْ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ بَدَتْ رِجْلَاهُ وَإِذَا مُدَّتَ عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ الثِّيَابُ بَدَا رَأْسُهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مُدُّوهَا عَلَى رَأْسِهِ» وَقَلَّتِ الثِّيَابُ وَكَثُرَتِ الْقَتْلَى وَكَانَ الرَّجُلُ وَالرَّجُلَانِ وَالثَّلَاثَةُ يُكَفَّنُونَ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَسْأَلُ أَيُّهُمْ أَكْثَرُ قُرْآنًا فَيُقَدِّمُهُ إِلَى الْقِبْلَةِ فَدُفِنُوا وَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by Hamzah after Uhud, and he had been mutilated. He said, "Were it not that Safiyyah would feel distress, I would have left him until scavengers ate him, until he is gathered from their bellies." Then he called for a striped cloak. When it was extended over his head, his feet showed; and when it was extended over his feet, his head showed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Extend it over his head." The cloth was scarce and the slain were many. One, two, or three men would be shrouded in a single cloth. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would ask which of them knew more Qur'an and would place him toward the qiblah. So they buried them, and he did not pray over them.
