حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْقَطِرَانِيُّ ثنا زِيَادُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ثنا أَبُو عَتَّابٍ الدَّلَّالُ أَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ ثَابِتٍ حَدَّثَنِي حَبِيبُ بْنُ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ قَالَ

صَنَعَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ نِسَاءِ الْحُسَيْنِ طَعَامًا فِي بَعْضِ أَرْضِهِ فَطَعِمَ ثُمَّ رُفِعَ الطَّعَامُ فَجَاءَ مَوْلًى لَهُ فَدَعَا بِالطَّعَامِ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ لَا أُرِيدُهُ قَالَ لِمَ؟ قَالَ أَكَلْنَا قُبَيْلُ عِنْدَ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فَقَالَ الْحُسَيْنُ إِنَّ أَبَاهَ كَانَ سَيِّدَ قُرَيْشٍ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «يَا بَنِي عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ أَطْعِمُوا الطَّعَامَ وَأَطِيبُوا الْكَلَامَ»

✧ A woman from the wives of al-Husayn prepared food in some of his land, and he ate. Then the food was cleared away, and a client (mawla) of his came, and he called for the food. He said: O Abu 'Abd Allah, I do not want it. He said: Why? He said: We ate a short while ago at the house of 'Ubayd Allah b. 'Abbas. Al-Husayn said: Indeed, his father was the leader of Quraysh. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O Banu 'Abd al-Muttalib, feed the food and speak kindly.'
