✧ The lineage of Abdul Rahman b. Awf.

حَدَّثَنَا الْمِقْدَامُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ ثنا ذُؤَيْبُ بْنُ عِمَامَةَ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ حُمَيْدٍ يَذْكُرُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

سَمِعَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ ؓ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ يَقُولُ أَنَا أَوْلَى النَّاسِ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «غَيْرُهُ أَوْلَى بِهِ مِنْكَ وَلَكَ نَسَبُهُ»

  3. Sulaymān b. Sālim
  4. ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Ḥumayd from his father
  5. ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. ʿAwf a man from Banī Hāshim

✧ Abd al-Rahman b. Awf ؓ heard a man from Banu Hashim saying, 'I am the closest of people to the Messenger of God ﷺ.' He said, 'Another is closer to him than you, but you have his lineage.'
