حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ الْغَنَوِيُّ عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ ؓ قَالَ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنِّي لَكُمْ فَرَطٌ وَإِنَّكُمْ وَارِدُونَ عَلَيَّ الْحَوْضَ عَرْضُهُ مَا بَيْنَ صَنْعَاءَ إِلَى بُصْرَى فِيهِ عَدَدُ الْكَوَاكِبِ مِنْ قِدْحَانِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ فَانْظُرُوا كَيْفَ تَخْلُفُونِي فِي الثَّقَلَيْنِ؟» فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَمَا الثَّقَلَانِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «الْأَكْبَرُ كِتَابُ اللهِ سَبَبٌ طَرَفُهُ بِيَدِ اللهِ وَطَرَفُهُ بِأَيْدِيكُمْ فَتَمَسَّكُوا بِهِ لَنْ تَزَالُوا وَلَنْ تَضِلُّوا وَالْأَصْغَرُ عِتْرَتِي وَإِنَّهُمَا لَنْ يَفْتَرِقَا حَتَّى يَرِدَا عَلَيَّ الْحَوْضَ وَسَأَلْتُ لَهُمَا ذَاكَ رَبِّي فَلَا تَقْدُمُوهُمَا فَتَهْلِكُوا وَلَا تُعَلِّمُوهُمَا؛ فَإِنَّهُمَا أَعْلَمُ مِنْكُمْ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “I am a forerunner for you, and you will come to me at the pool, whose width is between Ṣanʿāʾ and Buṣrā, containing as many golden and silver goblets as the number of stars. So consider carefully how you succeed me in the two weighty things.” A man stood and said, “O Messenger of Allah, what are the two weighty things?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The greater is the Book of Allah, a rope one end of which is in the hand of Allah and the other end in your hands. Hold fast to it, and you will never cease nor go astray. The lesser is my progeny. They will never separate until they return to me at the pool, and I asked that for them from my Lord. So do not go ahead of them and perish, and do not teach them, for they are more knowledgeable than you.”
