حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ أَخْبَرَ عُمَرَ ؓ وَهُوَ فِي طَرِيقِ الشَّامِ لَمَّا بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ بِهَا الطَّاعُونَ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ «إِنَّ هَذَا الْوَجَعَ أَوْ هَذَا السَّقَمَ عَذَابٌ عُذِّبَ بِهِ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ فَإِذَا كَانَ بِأَرْضٍ لَسْتُمْ بِهَا فَلَا تَهْبِطُوا عَلَيْهِ وَإِذَا كَانَ بِأَرْضٍ وَأَنْتُمْ بِهَا فَلَا تَخْرُجُوا فِرَارًا مِنْهُ» قَالَ فَرَجَعَ عُمَرُ ؓ بِالنَّاسِ ذَلِكَ الْعَامَ

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ that he said: “This pain, or this illness, is a punishment with which those before you were punished. So if it is in a land where you are not, do not go down upon it; and if it is in a land where you are, do not leave fleeing from it.” He said: Then ‘Umar ؓ turned the people back that year.
