حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَارُودِيُّ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ طَهْمَانَ عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَتَّابِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ
رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ فَخَرَجَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ؓ فِي عُنُقِهِ خِرْقَةٌ يَجُرُّهَا فَعَثَرَ فِيهَا فَسَقَطَ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ فَنَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْمِنْبَرِ يُرِيدُهُ فَلَمَّا رَآهُ النَّاسُ أَخَذُوا الصَّبِيَّ فَأَتَوْهُ بِهِ فَحَمَلَهُ فَقَالَ «قَاتَلَ اللهُ الشَّيْطَانَ إِنَّ الْوَلَدَ فِتْنَةٌ وَاللهِ مَا عَلِمْتُ أَنِّي نَزَلْتُ عَنِ الْمِنْبَرِ حَتَّى أُوتِيتُ بِهِ»

✧ I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the pulpit addressing the people. Al-Hasan b. 'Ali ؓ came out with a rag around his neck dragging it, and he tripped on it and fell on his face. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ descended from the pulpit heading for him. When the people saw him, they took the child and brought him to him, so he carried him and said: “May Allah curse Satan. Verily a child is a trial. By Allah, I did not know that I had descended from the pulpit until he was brought to me.”
