حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ ثنا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ ثنا مَكِّيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْأَوْدِيُّ عَنْ عَامِرٍ عَنْ جَرِيرٍ
أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ لِيُبَايِعَهُ فَقَالَ «مَدَّ يَدَكَ يَا جَرِيرُ» فَقَالَ عَلَى مَهْ؟ قَالَ «عَلَى أَنْ تُسْلِمَ وَجْهَكَ لِلَّهِ وَالنَّصِيحَةِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ» فَأَدْرَكَهَا جَرِيرٌ وَكَانَ رَجُلًا عَاقِلًا فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُ فَكَانَتْ رُخْصَةً لِلنَّاسِ بَعْدَهُ

✧ He came to the Prophet ﷺ to pledge allegiance to him, and he said: “Stretch out your hand, O Jarir.” He said: “Upon what?” He said: “Upon that you submit your face to Allah and give sincere counsel to every Muslim.” Jarir caught this, and he was an intelligent man, so he said: “O Messenger of Allah, as much as I am able.” After him this became a concession for the people.
