حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا زُهَيْرٌ ثنا سِمَاكٌ حَدَّثَنِي جَابِرُ بْنُ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ
كَانَ يُهْدَى لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْقِصَاعُ وَهُوَ فِي دَارِ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ فَكَانَ يَبْعَثُ إِلَيْهِ فَضْلَ مَا يَأْكُلُ فَأَتَتْهُ قَصْعَةٌ فَأَرْسَلَ بِهَا كَمَا هِيَ لَمْ يَنْقُصْ مِنْهَا شَيْءٌ فَقَالَ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ لِأَهْلِهِ لَا تَأْكُلُوا حَتَّى أَعْلَمَ لِمَ تَرَكَهَا؟ قَالَ فَاسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَيْهِ فَدَخَلَ فَقَالَ لَمْ يَكُنْ يَأْتِينَا مِنْ عِنْدِكَ شَيْءٌ إِلَّا أَكَلْتَ مِنْهُ غَيْرَ هَذِهِ الْقَصْعَةِ لَا أَدْرِي مَا شَأْنُهَا؟ قَالَ «كَانَ فِيهَا ثُومٌ فَكَرِهْتُ رِيحَهُ أَمَا إِنَّهُ لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ إِلَّا أَنِّي كَرِهْتُ رِيحَهُ» قَالَ فَإِنِّي أَكْرَهُ مَا تَكْرَهُ إِذًا قَالَ «فَأَنْتَ أَبْصَرُ»

✧ Bowls would be gifted to the Messenger of God ﷺ while he was in the house of Abu Ayyub, and he would send back to him the leftover of what he ate. A bowl came to him, and he sent it back as it was, not diminishing anything from it. Abu Ayyub said to his family: Do not eat until I find out why he left it. He said: So he sought permission to enter upon him and entered, and said: Nothing used to come to us from you but that you ate from it, except this bowl; I do not know what is the matter with it. He said: 'It had garlic in it, and I disliked its odor. As for it, there is no harm in it, except that I disliked its odor.' He said: Then I dislike what you dislike. He said: 'Then you know best.'
