حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ثنا سِمَاكٌ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ يَقُولُ صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ فَجَعَلَ يَنْتَهِرُ شَيْئًا قُدَّامَهُ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ سَأَلْنَاهُ فَقَالَ «ذَاكَ شَيْطَانٌ ألْقَى عَلَى قَدَمِي شَرَرًا مِنْ نَارٍ لِيَفْتِنَنِي عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ» قَالَ «وَقَدِ انْتَهَرْتُهُ وَلَوْ أَخَذْتُهُ لَنِيطَ إِلَى سَارِيَةٍ مِنْ سَوَارِي الْمَسْجِدِ حَتَّى يَطِيفَ بِهِ وِلْدَانُ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ»

✧ I heard Jabir b. Samurah say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the morning prayer and began to rebuke something in front of him. When he finished, we asked him, and he said: That was a devil who threw on my foot sparks of fire to tempt me away from the prayer. He said: I rebuked him, and if I had seized him, he would have been tied to one of the pillars of the mosque until the children of the people of Madinah went around him.
