حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَارُودِيُّ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ طَهْمَانَ عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ عَنْ مَعْدَانَ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ أَوْ عَنْ أَبِي كَبْشَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أُمَّتِي أَرْبَعَةٌ رَجُلٌ أَعْطَاهُ اللهُ مَالًا فَجَعَلَهُ فِي سَبِيلِهِ الَّذِي فَرَضَ فَرَآهُ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَقَالَ لَيْتَ لِي مِثْلُ مَالِ فُلَانٍ فَأَعْمَلَ فِيهِ كَعَمَلِهِ فَهُمَا فِي الْأَجْرِ مُسْتَوِيَانِ وَرَجُلٌ أَعْطَاهُ اللهُ مَالًا فَجَعَلَهُ فِي مَلَاعَبَتِهِ وَشَهَوَاتِهِ وَلَّذَاتِهِ فَرَآهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ لَيْتَ لِي مِثْلَ مَالِ فُلَانٍ فَأَعْمَلَ فِيهِ كَمَا عَمِلَ فَهُمَا فِي الْوِزْرِ مُسْتَوِيَانِ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “My community is four types: a man whom Allah gave wealth and he placed it in the path He ordained. A Muslim man sees him and says, ‘Would that I had wealth like so-and-so’s, so I could do with it as he does.’ They are equal in reward. And a man whom Allah gave wealth and he spends it on his play, desires, and pleasures. A man sees him and says, ‘Would that I had wealth like so-and-so’s, so I could do with it as he did.’ They are equal in sin.”
