✧ Yazid b. Rukana bin Abd Yazid bin Hashim died during the caliphate of Muawiyah.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ أَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي صَفْوَانُ بْنُ يَعْلَى بْنُ أُمَيَّةَ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ قَالَ

غَزَوْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ غَزْوَةَ الْعُسْرَةِ وَكَانَ يَعْلَى يَقُولُ تِلْكَ الْغَزْوَةُ أَوْثَقُ عَمَلِي عِنْدِي وَكَانَ لِي أَجِيرٌ فَقَاتَل إِنْسَانًا فَعَضَّ أَحَدُهُمَا الْآخَرَ فَانْتَزَعَ الْمَعْضُوضُ يَدَهُ مِنَ العَاضِّ فَانْتَزَعَ إِحْدَى ثَنِيَّتَيْهِ فَأَتَيَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَهْدَرَ ثَنِيَّتَهُ وَحَسِبْتُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَيَدَعُ يَدَهُ فِي فِيكَ تَقْضَمُهَا كَأَنَّهَا فِي فِيِّ فَحْلٍ يَقْضَمُهَا

✧ I went on the expedition of hardship with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Ya'la used to say: That expedition is the most reliable of my deeds in my sight. I had a hired hand, and he fought a man. One of them bit the other, and the one who was bitten pulled his hand from the biter's mouth, tearing out one of his front teeth. They came to the Prophet ﷺ, and he declared the tooth to be of no consequence. I think he said: The Prophet ﷺ said: 'He leaves his hand in your mouth for you to gnaw it, as if it were in the mouth of a male camel biting it.'
