✧ I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, intending not to leave anything of righteousness and sin without asking him about it. I went to him while he was among a group of Muslims around him, and I began to step over them to draw near to him. Some of them rebuked me, saying, 'Step back, O Wābisa, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' I said, 'I want to draw near to him.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Leave Wābisa; come near me, O Wābisa.' So he brought me close until I stood before him. Then he said, 'Will you ask me, or shall I inform you?' I said, 'No, rather you inform me.' He said, 'You have come to ask about righteousness and sin.' I said, 'Yes.' He gathered his fingertips and began tapping them on my chest, and said, 'Righteousness is that which the soul feels at ease with and the heart feels at ease with, and sin is that which wavers in the soul and hesitates in the chest, even if people give you rulings about it, whatever rulings they give you.'
