✧ From Jabir b. Samurah or a man among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, he said: The Prophet ﷺ used to tend sheep. He advanced in shepherding and came to be among camels, and he had a partner. They hired out the sister of Khadijah. When they completed the journey, something remained owed to them by her. His partner kept coming to them and demanding payment, and he would say to Muhammad ﷺ, “Come along.” But he would say, “You go, for I am too shy.” She said once, when he came to them, “Where is Muhammad? Why does he not come with you?” He said, “I told him, but he claimed he was too shy.” She said, “I have never seen a man more intensely shy, nor more chaste, nor more loyal.” This fell into the heart of her sister Khadijah, so she sent to him, saying, “Come to my father and propose to me.” He said, “Your father is a man of great wealth, and he will not do it.” She said, “Go, meet him, and speak to him; then I will suffice you. Come when he is drunk.” So he did, and he came to him, and he married him to her. When morning came, he sat in the assembly, and it was said to him, “You have done well; you have married Muhammad.” He said, “Did I do that?” They said, “Yes.” He stood up and went in to her and said, “The people say that I have married Muhammad, but I did not do it.” She said, “Do not make a fool of your own judgment, for Muhammad ﷺ is such and such.” She kept at him until he was satisfied. Then she sent to Muhammad ﷺ two measures of silver or gold, and she said, “Buy a garment and gift it to me, and a ram, and such and such.” So he did.
